first of all, you need to know which fingers exactly..
and did he/she lose sensations completely or you mean has numbness over these two fingers.
is he/she still able to move them or not?
was there any history of injury?
any pain?
any weakness?
etc.. etc..

anyway, if the little finger is "not" involved, then it's likely to be carpal tunnel where the median nerve that supplies the palm side of your thumb and fingers (except the little finger) is compressed at the wrist.. there's a simple procedure he/she can have done and it will relieve the pressure and he should be fine.

hope i was helpful..
Luck!

Well, the feeling in my fingers come and go and the doctor at the EMR told me it was neuropathy and said it comes from drinking alchol even though I don't drink now I did drink a lot in the past I stopped about two years ago drinking heavy that is.He said the drinking has damaged the nerves in my leg in arm on the left side. I throught I was a social drinker but I guess there is no such thing. But tell your friend to go to the doctor to be sure because I think it is related to his nerve.

He needs to have an EMG performed. It will tell him if it is neurological. Sounds like he may have carpal tunnel. Does he do repetative motions at work or use a computer every day?

This could be a lot of things. First thing I thought of was diabetes. Is your friend diabetic? Has he been tested for diabetes? In any event, he should see a doctor.
