Without having read any of your previous answers - I would say that it is NOT "normal." Normal meaning (in this case) within range of good behavior. It MAY be common - but to "bash" family members at ANY time is just NOT normal. It's cruel. From what I hear on TV talk shows, I guess it is common for people to feel stressed out during the time they spend with family members at holiday time. However, it is NOT healthy nor rewarding in ANY way, shape or form to spend the little time we have with loved ones, and forget that we ALL have a right to our own personal preferences and personalities yet insult others because they are not the SAME as we are. Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa - I don't care WHAT the Holiday, is supposed to be a time of joy, good cheer and gratitude. How is it an expression of ANY kind of gratitude to verbally abuse those at a gathering. I would suggest that if ANYONE starts this type of thing, I would do ANYTHING in my power to find a way to end it - from turning the music louder to simply saying, "I really want to make this a time of gratitude so let's express THAT rather than our bashing." I would find SOME way to let the bashers know that it is NOT what we all came together for and to suggest a change of attitude. If that doesn't happen, I (personally) would leave the gathering. Sadly, too many gatherings where this STARTS, turn into a police episode where someone gets hurt and or arrested. That is NO way to enjoy a holiday. Thank you for just reading my personal opinion.

normal? well I don't think so but non the less it is very common.I think there is too much animosity between families.People become either jealous of others or have too many opinions as to how someone should be by their own thoughts.
I think with a family the most important thing to do is just love them for who they are and if they are doing better in life than yourself you should be happy for them, not resent them for it.The world is full of different types of people and no matter what your never going to see things exactly the same.Know it, understand it and keep your opinions out of total judgment and everyone could live together alot better.

Well, it's not supposed to be like that, but I'm afraid it was, sadly to say, often like this in my family of origen. Yet, we do love one another so much, even though the circle has grown much smaller over the years due to death or geographic separation.
Make the best of it and do your part to promote the peace, because, looking back, time really does fly.

hi Jay Is it "time-honored"? that could mean that maximum folk of human beings all international do it. So the respond is in all probability "no" (nonetheless who's conscious what human beings do in private). Is it "organic" - in different words, carry out a little human beings do it on occasion without being nutty? definite. to illustrate, whilst i'm making fixtures (working in my woodshop on my own) I somewhat oftentimes refer to myself, the two silently and out loud, approximately what i'm doing. and each each and every now and then i'm unsure - on the layout for a bite of fixtures, working example - and that i start up discussing the opportunities out loud. and each so often i'm getting right into a controversy with myself through fact - for a rapid whilst - i can't be certain which layout is appropriate. i hit upon that helps me to think of issues by way of - in that subject. Now, if I argued with myself out loud very often, and especially if I did it in public, and especially if the arguments did not make issues better out for me, THEN i don't think of it may be time-honored or organic and that i could flow searching for professional help.

I believe so. Although it shouldn't happen. Some families just cant get along when you put them all in the same room. Theres now doubt that everyone loves each other, its really just the clashing of personalities.
