ok i have a dell inspiron 2200 laptop, with a 15 pin VGA output.

well i want to connect it to my tv which has a HDMI input. In my manual for my tv it says,

"the HDMI cable running from the TV should be connected to the DVI output of the PC. Use DVI to HDMI adapter to do the connection"

so im lost about how to connect them together.

do i need a VGA to DVI adapter (to plug in my laptop) then a DVI to HDMI cable to plug in the TV. im guessing this is right???

Your final sentence is spot on......although you probably won't need to use the HDMI port as most LCD TVs have either a VGA or DVI socket especially for computers.

Just buy a VGA to DVI converter (about £2) and a DVI to DVI cable if your TV has a DVI socket, or just a VGA to VGA cable if your computer has a VGA socket.

As there is generally a shortage of HDMI sockets on LCD/plasma TVs, it's best to keep these free for HDMI DVD players/recorders (fantastic picture quality using 720p or 1080i/p upsampling) and the like.

You would need a VGA to DVI convertor to get the signals in the right spot for DVI, then you would need a DVI to HDMI cable to get the signal from DVI to the HDMI format. However, the DVI signal is going to probably be analog (known as DVI-I) at that point, while the HDMI input only accepts digital signals (possible from a DVI-D cable).

You will need an adapter to get the signal from the analog VGA to DVI cable to the digital-only HDMI port.

You may be better off to hook up the laptop using a VGA to RGB cable that you can usually plug in to the game port connections on the back or front of the LCD TV. It won't be a digital signal, but it will work and won't cost a few hundred dollars.

Brother, as i understand you want to extend the display of your laptop to your monitor as well as your LCD. 1st of all check if your laptop has a HDMI out and your LCD has a HDMI in. The LCD most probably would have the HDMI in. If yes, then you can connect the lcd with a HDMI cable and the monitor with the VGA cable it already has. If not then a VGA splitter is what you need and a VGA cable for your LCD.

Yo why would you need to buy it when you can get it for free? I just entered these sweepstakes and got the free 42" Panasonic Plasma TV for free! I couldn't believe it. You can also get the 42" Sony TV, but I like Panasonic alot better.

Check this site out! You just need to enter your Zip Code.
