I'm sqautting an appartment in a ruined building in New Orleans, Louisiana. I need to know what rights I have.
I need an answer as quickly as possible.

I'm worried that the owner may show up and tell me to leave. I need to arm myself with knowledge to enable me to defend myself.

What makes you think you have any rights for converting someone else's property for your own use? You already said you are squatting on someone else's property, means you are not there legally.

Besides if it is ruined it would be unsafe and unfit for habitation. If it was my property I would throw you out, mostly for your own safety. Another reason is the LIABILITY factor. I wouldn't want to be liable if something happened to you on my property.

You don't have any. The owner can get you evicted quickly if and when they want to. And in LA, I'd wager that he could have you removed by the police as a trespasser since there was no tenancy agreement between you.

i doubt if the owner will show up, the town is in ruins, so you should be good for a while.

edit,
if they show up ask for the title/deed that says they own this apartment. it may just be someone who wants that apartment just as much as you do.

Move out of there & go to another town & find work & start a new life that will make you proud
because squatting wont make you proud will it??
