Your battery is good for a certain number of charge cycles. How many it is for your given battery, I do not know. They rate the charge cycles as a complete dischage and full charge.
Memory effect can happen in NiMH but not Lithium Ion. Your Laptop should have a Li-ion, and hence no memory effect. AS a matter of fact ful discharges are BAD BAD BAD for li-ions
Fact the more a Li-Ion is used the worse it is for it. Keep it cool and use outlet power as much as possible.
How often you have to replace it will depend on how you use it and treat it. I use my laptops mostly as desktop replacements with coolers running under them. I have never had to replace a battery in one of mine.

My dell laptop battery still gives 2 hrs backup after one and half years. Initally it used to give 2 hrs 30 mins backup. But mine is a desktop replacement so not sure if batteries of other laptops will have different life times.
I don't think frequent partial-discharge, recharge of li-on battery can be an issue since they have no memory-effect.

I have a Toshiba and the dealer told me to run the batteries until I received a warning (that the battery was low) and then connect to AC.
My recharger for digital camera completely drains battery prior to recharging. Likewise for my cell phone.
When I use laptop, I remove battery as it gets hot. Only run on batteries when I cannot get AC. Also have a spare battery and periodically switch between them.

Its not even normal for a Dell Laptop to last 1 year so your in good shape. (Just kidding). Thats normal if you don't completely disharge your battery once in a while or run it near dead to condition it.

Depends on how much you're using it.
Laptops are designed for portability. Not power or durability. They were never intended to be used like Desktops. If you are using it like one, expect it to wear out much quicker than intended.
