It is a holdover from the past :-)
This stop has been around for at least 30-years and really is just a cheesy tourist stop BUT the kids LOVE it. There are various wierd things to see and I believe The Thing itself is a mummy (they used to let you touch it).
This is the kinda place you would have stopped during road trips years ago as a nice diversion from the highway.

It's a mummy, unfortunately we have to stop and see it every time we go back to AZ cuz our kids think it's soooo cool.

THe "Thing" is a mummy I thought it was so badass when I was a kid now its boring.
