Community theatre to learn the craft.
An agent - to get local commercial gigs.
Thick skin- to handle all the freakin' rejection.

Is he any good, please answer as if you weren't his mom.
Is he cute, again please be objective
Is he truly motivated, or just being a kid?

If you've got all this covered then go ahead sink some money into head shots and start promoting his name.

Good luck.

most likely since Iowa doesn't have MAHJOR cities like La or NY answhere near for easy accesss lives in the fast lane...take into consideration that just becuase he wants to doesnt mean he will. Hollywood takes away the childhood fo many people, messes up families, and also it destroys the person by making them look a "certain way". All this is wrong in hollywood so if he wants to become an actor and has NOT gone into college tell him that you will support him and then let him fly free a little but during audition season. and never go through if you think something most likely its just a rip-off by them taking your money and nothing ever comes out of it..

GL and have agreat day

See if any local theaters or community groups are doing any plays, musicals, stage readings, etc. Many high schools and some middle schools have drama departments with some opportunities too. These are a good staring place. If he gets some experience and wants to pursue more education he can apply to colleges as theater or acting major (or something else with a minor or electives in acting)

I would say don't discourage him from his desire and goals. It may not be easy to encourage or get him involved in some things, but I bet you can find something (local production) for him. It's important to encourage your kids and who knows maybe a person at a local theater knows a teacher at a drama school that has a summer camp that he can attend.

I wouldn't go out and get him an agent or make plans to move to LA or NYC just yet, but help him find ways to explore his interests.

If It's Hollywood, It Really Bites These Days... Most Are Holding Two To Three Jobs To Survive And Never So Much As Get In The Doors On Some Screenings. Better Off As A Truck Driver...

Tell him to become a doctor, fireman or police officer. Most actors do not make a living as actors. Only a few actors become celebrities.

Acting is not bad. But, making a living out of acting? You need to have good contacts, good Public relations, and a charming personality.

It is advisable that, acting may be taken up once ou have your formal education. If acting does not work out, you can look for alternative careers.

If he is hell bent on acting, find an acting school and polish his skills. Amd then make aportfolio and try to leverage contacts, if any.

All the best

Then have him participate in some community or church acting gigs. Get him performing! Say, isn't Ashton Kutcher from Iowa? Give him a call ;-)

no worries just let him do what he feels if your son is young he'll probably change his mind but if he wants to do it then you should put him in an acting class and they'll help a lot for him
