If the office is shut down on a day they would be open normally (like a mon-fri job) because the company decides to close then its the companies responsibility to compensate the employee. Why should a Jewish or Muslim lose pay when they wouldn't be able to go in and work anyway?

Nope, your not taking money under false pretenses. I don't believe in alot of the things that are "christmas". Most Historians, etc. will tell you that Jesus Christ was actually (probably) born in the Spring since is was custom to slaughter all sheep and livestock in the late fall. There would not have been baby animal in that manager as the Bible says. Also, it never says anything in the bible about the exact date of Jesus' birth. In the B.C. years the druids celebrated the Winter solsitice on December 25th. The druids calander was much like ours today and we know through astrological line-up (by the way the druids wrote where the stars were on that particular night) that they celebrated on December 25th. The Solsitice was a celebration of Life throughout the winter. They would decorate pine (evergreens) to represent everlasting life. As these trees wouldn't die in the winter. They would have large feasts that would last for days. At the beginning and end of these feasts candles would be places on the evergreens to light the path of Omar the god of winter and persurverence. So no, I don't agree with you at all, we all should have this day off to reflect upon our own beliefs and have our own good times and special memories.

Some people that don't like Christmas just takes the time off to relax and enjoy the time off with family and friends even tho they don't like the Holiday. However ,they should work if they are offended but again if a company is closed during the Holiday it means they have to be off also.

I celebrate "Festivus" on that day which requires an aluminum pole. There is a family gathering which includes the "airing of the grievences" and "Feats of stregnth." Since I celebrate the holiday, I need to get the day off like those who celebrate Christmas!

Technically Christmas is a national holiday so everyone is compensated. Just like not everyone goes to the cemetary for Memorial Day is compensated.

Christmas is a day of celebrating God's love in being born to live among us. What is wrong in wanting all people to be able to enjoy this day? We don't say that only those who pay taxes get police protection. Let them enjoy the day.

People who don't celebrate Christmas often do not get their holidays off from work, so why don't take off Christmas? Anyway, there are many national holidays that everyone gets off that the individuals may not observe.

i'm not sure what you're talking about, but a single person or someone who isn't going to visit their family, has just as much right to a day off as anyone else, and even someone who doesn't celebrate christmas can certainly take advantage of having a day off--why the heck not? jeez, i mean, does that mean you have to make sure you have a bbq for labor day to get it off too?

Well, most people do celebrate christmas. I'm an atheist and i celebrate christmas. I know jewish people who celebrate "christmas". It's more of a family and friends holiday than a religious one, so I would say yes, they should get christmas off.

I have no problem working on holidays I don't celebrate as long as I get mine off. The differance is I don't get holiday pay on mine. So yes if if the company I am working for is not open on Christimas I want the money as I don't get it on my holiday. If its open then I will work it.
