Yes - if you have an empty slot on your pc, you can buy a card with extra USB ports. Example: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1567047&CatId=510

If you don't have an empty slot on your pc, you can buy a hub that plugs into your existing USB port and expands it by the number of ports in the hub. Example: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1219232&CatId=392

You can buy a PCI card that inserts in an available slot in your computer (just like a video card or game card) and will give you anywhere from one to four additional USB ports to use.

Be sure to check that the one you buy supports the faster USB 2.0 standard. Most do now unless you are buying from eBay or some refurbished or second-hand card.

If you have a desktop, the best thing to do is put in a pci card with 5 usb ports. Hubs are more finicky and some things don't work on them.
If you have a laptop, a hub is the only option.

If you are talking about a front-side port, yes you can just get a new part that will plug into the motherboard. If it's on the back (or side toward the rear) of the computer, then probably not, or at least it wouldn't be worth it. In either case, It would be easier (and cheaper) to get a hub and USE THE AC ADAPTER! :-) Too many people don't. If you do, the things you plug in will run off wall current. If you don't, they will draw off your computer's power supply (they are limited).
