I've talked to quite a few owners in NYC and they've stated that to open your doors you'll need around $80K to $100K. The main thing to consider is your equipment (lease or purchase), your location rent/lease, your supplies/advertising and employee salaries. As as well enough saved for your salary until you turn a profit. Don't forget to gain clientele before you start spending money. The first few months you're gong to have more expenses until you get your name out and people now you're open for business.

I opened one in 1996 for about $15,000. I rented a small bldg with a bathroom, bought 2 stations from armstrong-mccall, had a plumber put in a wash basin for hair, and a relitively inexpensive sign. I showed a profit the first year. You can go all out and spend big bucks or do like I did and be comfortable the first year. Spend alot on advertising. Thats what will get people in the door
