RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It is a chip that plugs into your motherboard that stores information that needs to be accessed very quickly. When you run out of space to hold memory in your RAM, it stores it on your hard drive as a swap file. The swap file takes alot longer to access, which is why more RAM is better.

RAM is short for Random Access Memory. To increase RAM you need to add RAM chips to your computer or replace existing ones with greater capacity. For example common sizes of RAM are 128 megabytes, 256, 512, 1 Gigabyte. If you have 2 x 128 chips and need to increase is you can add 2 x 512. The more RAM the better performance as the information stored in RAM is accessed quicker than the computer needing to read information from the hard disk.

Random Access Memory. It is placed where programs and files are stored, it is faster to access them from RAM, but RAM is more expensive, and is volatile, meaning when the power is turned off RAM looses whatever was stored in it.

You can buy RAM from a store like BestBuy, and install it in your computers box. Or have some one else do it. It's the best way to increase your machines performance, better than increasing processor speed.

RAM is "Random Access Memory".....it is your computer's main memory chipset (not to be confused with the Main Processor, such as the Pentium 4).

The "RAM chip" is located inside your computer's circuit board, usually there are 8 or maybe 16 slots.

Consult your computer's Instruction Manual for the type of chip that you need.

For example, on my Dell computer, you have to put in a "balanced" amount of memory on each chip in the slot.

RAM is Random Access Memory. The more RAM you have, the faster your computer will run. Chances are you do not want to decrease your RAM. To get more RAM, you need ram chips. Generally, most computers have 512MB of ram or 1GB (1024 MB) of RAM. You can get certain ram chips that will fit in slots in your computer. If you have 512 MB RAM, you may have 1 slot of it, or two slots of 256 MB Each. to increase it, if you have two slots, just place two 512 MB in each and you get 1gb ram. you can multi-task more, and the computer will run faster.

RAM is the fastest memory that you have in your pc besides cache of course. It is where all data is sent before throw to the processor. It is needed because if your hard drive and other peripherals just tried sending information to the processor it would be way too slow for the processor..

Generally, RAM in a computer is considered main memory or primary storage: the working area used for loading, displaying and manipulating applications and data.
