Insesant crying without any aparent cause for 2-3 hours every day.

You dont cure it. Its though to be caused by babies who dont have the ability to process stimulants right. And also by gas in the digestive tract.

Usually a baby with bad colic is allergic to milk based formula and has to take soy formula instead.

Burping during and after feedings, staying calm yourself, staying in squiet calm environments, trying soy formula, or atleast a different brand, or taking dairy from your diet if you're breast feeding... all these things can help.

The only way to get rid of it is for the baby to out grow it.

Symptoms of colic are: baby crying for more than 2 hours at a time, usually after eating, baby pulling his legs up and arching his back, swollen and/or hard abdomen, passing a lot of gas, spitting up a lto, and general irritability. Baby may also not be able to sleep and refuse some of his feedings. Medical research now shows that colic may be caused by indigestion, acid reflux disease, and lactose intolerance. If you are breastfeeding, baby is probably swallowing too much air or his food is coming back up his throat. If you are formula feeding baby may need to change to a soy formula like emfamil p-rosobe or similac isomil advance. The most helpful things you can do are give him warm baths, take him for rides in the car or stroller, and leave baby propped up for at least an hour after eating. Your doctor can determine if baby is just gassy or if it is reflux causing the pain. In most cases, changing formula and leaving baby semi-upright after eating can resolve the problem. If baby continues to cry, your mother may need to put him on zantac or prevacid.

i found some info fascinating on colic behavior. I forget the name of the author, but the book is called "happiest baby on the block". it comes in a DVD. I saw this in a parenting class. the theory is colic prone babies are missing a 4th trimester, and still need to be coddled and held as if they were in the womb. really check it out. it was the most awesome thing i had ever seen. just to see the baby screaming it's head off and be completely calm after using the "S" systems in a matter of a second was so amazing. it makes me look for colicky babies just so i could use the method.

I think everybody has pretty well described the symptoms correctly, but I'll give you the home remedy alot of babies in my family have used-it's my grandmother's recipe(she has a home remedy for everything, and it has always worked for us!) Boil 1 tsp. fennel seed (you can get it in the spice aisle at the grocery store) in a small pot of water(about 2 cups) Once it boils, turn it off,and let cool. Then, strain the liquid, and throw the seeds away.Put about 2 or 3 oz. in your babies bottle, add a little karo syrup(so it doesn't taste too bitter), and feed it to him/her. You can do this 1 or 2 times per day. Hope it helps you as much as it did us!Good Luck!

Crying for no apparent reason for longer than 3-4 hrs a day, especially after 6 pm. Some people believe it's due to some tummy discomfort. There's not much you can do. Just try to soothe them the best way you can. It gets better after 3/4months. Your pediatrician might be more specific since they're supposed to know the baby better. Good luck!

Colic. When they cry allllllll the time.

My son started crying at 14 days old and stopped when he was 3 1/2 months old. He had been checked out by his doctor and the doctor suggested putting Karo syrup, just a tad of it, in to his bottle along with the formula. It helped a little, but he cried from the time he woke up until a very short nap, then cried again until he went to sleep for the night. He cried when I carried him, when he sat in his chair, just didn't matter. It stopped when I took him off formula because he had diareahha and I put him on regular non fat milk. That was the first time he smiled and stopped crying. Never did put him back on formula. He is a very healthy adult now.

Prior posts state what it is well. And they say if you are formula feeding switch to soy! What they don't mention, is if you are breastfeeding, get off all dairy immediately. If the milk's protien is the cause, you should see results in a few days. If not, look through what foods you ate (or formula ingredients) cause he could be allergic to something! Good luck!

I've heard that if you run the vacuum, or set the baby on top of a washer while it's running(in a carrier or something, be safe) it helps.
