The pigmentation of a baby depends on recessive and dominate genes of both sets of parents. If you have two parents with a recessive gene for a pigment coloration that neither one of the parents show outwardly it can show up in their offspring. Also babies that are born to darker skinned parents are born initially of a lighter color. It is the melanin in the skin that causes the color variations. Not all body functions run at their optimum at birth and sometimes takes a little while to kick in.

There have been African American children born that their skin color appeared white and infact continued to appear white throughout their life. Upon genetic testing, it was shown that a one time in their past, both maternal and paternal gene strains showed that an introduction of a non African American gene was introduced. Both sets of parents had the right recessive genes and thus a new color variation was produced. This happened even though their were other children born to that same couple that had the same coloring as the parents.

It can go generations back, I came out looking like a half breed meaning half Indian and half white, my sister (dark Indian) and my late sister - White.

I have read stories of people hiding black blood and grandchildren showing up later with black pigmentation.

My family is aboriginal, they (Dad's family) hid the white blood, my grandma was an illegimate child of Scots/Welshman. Your children are your heritage so be proud of who you really are.

Someone is not telling the truth somewhere about your true heritage.

It really can vary, and go on for generations, if your grandmother conceived with somone not in your race, your child could have signs of that race, actually, even if her grandmother did, it still could appear in a child...
Children are blessings no matter what color they come out to be...just love it...happy new year!!!!
