Careful with the Tums....to many and it will cause constipation. Combine Tums constipation with the lovely constipation that pregnancy often brings and you can plug yourself up for a month.
Eat a few crackers before going to bed. Drink some water. Ask your doctor if there is something you can take for it. If it's really bad, they will allow you to take meds for it. I was allowed to stay on my acid reflux meds while pregnant, although I chose to go off.

I had terrible reflux with both of my children and nothing but prescription Prevacid helped me. The only thing you can do before you see your doctor is to take some tums, sleep propped up, and try not to consume food that aggravate indigestion. Try to avoid anything spicy, don't eat a lot of greasy or buttery foods, and nothing acidic. Before you can get a prescription, you will have have to try something over the counter like prilosec. Your reflux may go away after a few weeks when your body has adjusted to being pregnant, but since you are experiencing it so early into your pregnancy, you will most likely have it the whole 40 weeks, especially the bigger baby gets and the closer you get to labor. If the problem persists and your doctor won't give you anything, get a new doctor. There is no reason to suffer like this and it will probably only get worse. You will most likely be referred to a gastroenterologist who can make a decision about what medication is most helpful for you. And don't be worried about taking a medicine, I took prevaicd throughout both of my pregnancies and had beautiful healthy babies.

Try TUMS or Rolaids. If the OTC stuff doesn't work, ask your doc for an Rx like Prevacid.
I had reflux before I got pregnant, so I wouldn't know if it's normal or not in the first trimester, but it can get HORRIBLE in the 3rd! In fact, the night I delivered was the only night in my entire 3rd trimester that I didn't have hellacious heartburn all night, and that's b/c the doctor gave me Reglan!
Another thing you could do for relief is try avoiding foods that might give you heartburn before you go to bed at night. You can also try elevating your upper body a little bit (like sleeping on a recliner) to help keep the acid where it needs to be.

Yes, this is normal, and it is a huge pain. Try taking the maximum dosage of tums listed on the bottle - if that doesn't work, you can also take maalox. Read the labels carefully before you take anything - many of the common otc antacids can be harmful to the baby.

Try tums, milk, or something for heartburn. I had heartburn throughout my whole pregnancy and in the end my doctor prescribed me something for it. So, until then try tums. Good luck!

get a hold of your doctor and tell him what you said here. you don't need to wait 3 more weeks. i'm sure he'll be able to help you. good that you haven't just taken any over-the-counter medication.
