If she asks you to be in it, I think it is ok. You shouldn't let others opinions hold her back from trying something new. When I was 7 I was in a pagent, it didn't scar me. I didn't go to miss.america or anything. In fact, that was the only one I did, lol. I wanted to do that pagent, so my mom let me....after that my interest went in a different direction. I still got to be a kid, so enterning one pagent doesn't take over your life. If she wants to do it, there is nothing wrong. It isn't like you are putting make up on her like she is 20 or something. I think it would be fun for her, and explain to her that she might not win, and it is ok.

why do you want to enter her? did she ask you, or are you suggesting it to her? i agree with the no makeup thing, but pageants can go from "fun" to "freaky" pretty quick, thanks to some of the crazy parents and the intense competition. If she wants to compete in something, why not try dance or gymnastics? she'll still get to "perform" and be "judged," but on talent and practice rather than her external characteristics. Just think carefully about the messages you are exposing to her, and what you want her to know is important about herself and in life.

That's cool---the fact that they do not allow make-up! That is reasonable....BUT, I don't know, I personally wouldn't allow it for my daughter. Please do not take me wrong, I really do not mean to sound all goodie two-shoes. I am just one of those "types" of moms who are excessively overprotective, and I would hurt so bad for her if she didn't win. Plus, they are all vanity driven (obviously)...and I wouldn't want to promote that kind of thinking.
My 6 yr old daughter already has a problem with comparing herself to the other girls in kindergarten. It breaks my heart, as I watch history repeating itself, as I too had the same envy all of my life.
If you think your daughter is strong & confident, and will be able to handle that kind of competition, then go for it. I would just be cautious to not make it "that big of a deal"......in the grande sceme, its so trivial, and she should know that. ?

NO! Your child is building an identity now and you DO NOT want it to be based on how she looks!! If you want her to enter in a contest do something like an art contest or something else that she enjoys

Yeah it's great. Natural pageants are very fair. It's not about beauty and stuff. You should let her do it she will have fun.

I think any kind of beauty pageant at this age is disgusting and is very close to children exploitation. I deeply recommend not to do it.

Yes, to me that is a good way for a child to build self-confidence, have fun, dress-up, & just be them selves. Also make- sure you are not forcing her into this make sure it is something she is interested in doing also.

Let her decide. Most of these things have parents forcing their children to do things they don't want to and that's what harms their self esteem. But if she wants to do it support her and let her know that it is all in fun.
