I have a Compaq 900 laptop that I've had for several years. Yesterday I replaced the old battery with a new one and it worked great. I let the battery go all the way down to 0% before I charged it again and last night I was running on battery power again until 0%. Then, I plugged the AC plug back in to charge the battery. I sat like that, assuming it was charging for about an hour, then it said it was 100%...so I unplugged it.

The PC immediately died. I tried recharging the battery but all it says is 100%, but I unplug it and the PC dies, every time.

This is a BRAND NEW battery. Does anyone have any help for me?

The old battery works just fine, therefore it's definitely the battery and not the computer.

I had the same problem with a "no name" brand battery, it didn't hold a charge. I learned my lesson and from now on will only buy a battery from a reputable source with a good return policy. Some brand new batteries do not hold a charge. Good luck!

sounds like that is time for a clean battery. The battery in my Toshiba pc lasted about a three hundred and sixty 5 days beforehand I had to replace it because it does not carry a charge. (i trust the actual incontrovertible truth that that's not charging in any respect ability the voltage has dropped too low to thoroughly charge it.) I even don't have any clue what that "power leak with the help of the reveal" element is, until eventually someone replaced into speaking about the backlight draining a battery quick at severe brightness tiers.

Try to recondition the battery, you should have an option to do so. But it sounds like the battery is the wrong type for your specific laptop model.

Clearly, the new battery is defective.
return it and get a replacement.
Best option.
After all, you still have the old one to use until the new "new" one arrives~

Probably not the battery at fault, something else internal..

if you need a new battery, then eBay is your friend.

I'd send the battery back for exchange.
