my AC unit froze up on my 95 sable ( 3.0 eng. ) and snap the serpentine belt.
Is it possible to get a belt made for a sable without AC so I would'nt have to remove the AC compressor ? THeir seems to be enought clearence to clear the clutch on the ac compressor. The belt routing diagram on the car shows with/without AC.

if the ac unit doesnt get in the way, u could bypass it. u will probably need to adjust the tension on the idler pulley after since the belt was on the ac and now the tension will be too loose. if the belt appears its gonna drag or clip the ac unit, it would be better to remove it. serpentine belts isnt exactly cheap.

Call an Auto Parts Store. They will ask the year and engine size. Then they should ask With/Without AC? Your other option would be to use and Measuring tape like a "Seamstress" use when measuring people for custom clothes. Measure around the Pulleys you will use and give that to the Auto Parts store, they may match the size with proper belt.

Autozone shows a Belt w/o AC for $25. Part Number 4060812

Your going to have to change the compressor. I would not get a re manufactured those tend to break quicker and usually the day after the warranty expires. There is a bearing inside the front clutch of the compressor, if it was smoking in right near the belt. Some AC repair shops will just replace that bearing. It will cost 45-100 to have it done. I would check your local salvage yard! You can get a salvage on for around 50-100 depending on your area, a small garage would put it on for about 150. I wouldn't use a dealer! Last note: If you find one of those cheap pulleys that let you bypass the drive belt don't use it. They do not support the torque an engine puts on them. I installed one of a Pontiac and it broke the first time we started the car.
