Yes, you can deadhead them, keep them in a well lit space, amybe outside in the summer.

The trick is the light regimin, they need 12 hours of total dark for 6-8 weeks! that means a closet with no opening the door, then bright light the rest of the time.

When i was a kid my Mom tried it for a few years in the basement under a growlight. Some years it worked, others not so good.

If you are dedicated, it can be fun. To me they are cheap enough that I don't want to have to keep a dark room . Also the cops may think you are growing something else and try raiding your house

You can keep your poinsettia just like you do any other house plant. The poinsettia is in the Spurge family. The leaves are called bracts and the flower is the little yellow hard part on the top of the plant. The leaves will turn green oor even fall off, then new ones will grow, but unless you have a special place in your heart for this plant, it would be easier to buy a new one next year. When you break a stem on the poinsettia, a white latex substance will come out, that is why you never see flower arrangements made with the pretty bracts because the stem ca'nt suck up the water. If you decide to keep the plant and grow it, don't cut the tops off, you do not need to. Do'nt worry the cops want come after you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When all the leaves start falling, cut the stems back to 3 or 4 leaf nodes. For the next 9 months treat it like any other houseplant. Water it twice a week and fertilize it once a month. In October cut it back about halfway. Give it 10 hours of sunlight every day and for the other 14 hours put it in a closet where it will get no light whatsoever. All of the leaves that grow in will grow in red or whatever color your plant happens to be. Then you can bring it out for the holidays and start all over again. I had a neighbor in Southern California who planted hers outside and it grew and colored every year.
