Scott is a lovable character. He is the young leader - noble and idealistic. I think being rid of him was poorly timed and poorly executed... no pun intended.

Answer one: If I remember correctly, they only found his eyeglasses, nothing else. As is common in the X-Men comic books, is he really dead? (Why the characters didn't come to this conclusion, I'll never know; or maybe I missed some other more-convincing information.)

Answer two: The writers/director did not know what they were doing. Some people liked the 3rd film, but I thought it was very poorly done. While I fully realize the movies do not follow the books, I feel the writers took way too many liberties; not to mention I felt the style of the film was way off. In my opinion, X2 was near perfect for a comic book movie; It really is a shame Bryan Singer did not continue to direct these.

Answer three: The producers wanted to keep Halle Berry on board which required giving her a more prominent role. Axing Cyclops promoted Storm into the field leader position, thereby giving Berry's character more lines by default.

Don't be so sure he's dead...remember Phoenix has the ability to send people to other dimensions, so he could very well be in another dimension. So if they want to bring him back they can using that as a reason. But in the movie they did it as a way of showing that neither Jean nor anyone else (Professor X or Scott (the biggest influences in Jean's life)) can control the Phoenix and its power.

They were trying to stay true to the comic books. In the original comic, Jean Grey became the Phoenix and killed Scott.

I agree - 2 replaced into the appropriate, and 3 replaced into SOOO incorrect and not even close to to the actual comedian storyline. 3 could have been greater advantageous if that they had long previous into something like how previous Wolverine somewhat is, the place he got here from, yadayada. maximum folk do not be attentive to that Wolverine replaced into born sometime interior the 15 or 1600's, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that i don't remember the place, he's almost immortal along with his therapeutic element.

I think it had a lot to do with Marsden's shooting schedule for Superman Returns and it also showed not only the power of Phoneix, but her lack of control over that force within her. If it makes you feel better, Cyclops was always my favorite too.
