given the ignorance, intolerance and bigotry shown by many US citizens toward those who are different than they are...I'd have to say the most racist state is the state of mind.

Michigan

I am from the South and moved to MI for school and was really surprised. Difference is, people from the south who are racist tend to know that they are.

While driving in a car to grad with mixed company (I'm latino), a friend's parents said "Detroit used to be such a beautiful city until the ****** moved in." I was floored. I've noticed things like that a lot that I didn't notice in rural Georgia, NC, SC, and North Florida

In many areas like Detroit, Flint, Saginaw, white flight has left a huge impact and the segregation is astonishing.

Depends on who the people are being prejudice against. There is alot of ethnic bias against hispanics in California, Texas and Florida. Of course now it is spreading into Tennessee and Illinois as the immigrants move to those areas. The southern states tend to be racist against black people, although I've seen a lot of racism against this group on the east coast. Personally though, I would choose Texas, simply because I lived there for years. I love the state, but those people can really be prejudice against anyone that isn't white, rich, and baptist.

The entire bible belt region of the USA, primarily the southern states that fought along the conferedate lines during the civil war. Also, many midwestern states are not very tolerant of people of other races and religions, giving rise to hate groups such as the KKK and White Supremacists.
