It has just always been tradition because in the old days a man would have to ask a Woman's family for permission to marry the girl. There was a lot at stake back then like property that was to stay in the family, money, dowery, etc. These days things are different and women propose all the time. I still think it's need when people are in a familial situation where everyone get's along and the Man asks his future Mother-in-Law on one kneee if she would be his Mother-in-Law. '-)

In the past it was proper (in society's opinion) for the man to ask the father and then the daughter, for her hand in marriage. It was unheard of for a woman to ask a man to marry her. There are a lot of women that would rather the guy ask out of tradition or for the sense of feeling that the man truly wants to be with her. It's more of tradition more than anything. Women typically expect the man to ask, b/c for the most part all women have the dream or fantasy of receiving that perfect proposal of marriage. In more recent years though more women are stepping out of that tradition and asking the man...we aren’t afraid to break tradition and go against society anymore.

Just wait for a girl to propose you. You might have to wait for rest of your life. But for sure you will know by the end of your life why boys have to propose instead of girls.

'Cause every1 thinks that guys are braver than girls (yea, that depends and its a load of crap, i know... but thats what other ppl think...) and if people ask "Who purposed?" and if it's the girl they r lyk "Really? I thought guys are susposed to purpose! I guess I was wrong!". Trust me, this happened at a wedding i was at. It hurts, so we just stay with the guys purposing.
Girls, they pick stupid times to do things. Trust me, I'm one.

Most of yahoo answer said that boys r brave HUMMMMMM ,dude there is no competition b/w fighters. It is emotional & romantic situation boys purpose girls becoz it is norm, becoz most of girls r shy & it is seems beautiful that boys go first.

It depends upon individual to individual. but I think who feels first ,should do first. Myself purposed my boyfriend without thinking about the consequences ,and he accepted but soon in his male instinct , sometimes he realised that he is the master and he should do first.though he loves me but could not say because of shy nature.so ..........better u yoyourself purpose ur girl , because u r male and male thinks , they start first in every case.. before u feel regret afterwords in front of your male friends. I tthink it seems to difficult when u hink about results but if u think all will b fine , then u can enough gather guts to speak. donot b shy. boys r not supposed to b shy in 2007, well keep trying in front of mirror. it helps really. ....... good Luck

Gals have also started to propose...but if u talk bout Indian gals..then certainly the traditional values...I think could be the basic factor..that holds them back...but now even indian gals have started proposing guys.

no one expects nothing .
its just that guys r more impatient , they want everything instantly even without knowing that a guy truely loves the gal or not guy proposes gal
but gal gets through with it that she loves the guy or not n then proposes thats why gal take time so u just wait n watch u surely ll get ur gal proposing u

boys are expected to propose girls first since man was frist created and the woman came later. so man has to do it first.
