Hi, well first off, I hope everyone had a happy holiday!!!! I didn't though, because I'm SICK with a damned sinus infection. You see, I was at my chiropractor and he brought in his stupid dog. Now I've been going to him for 2 years and he knows that I'm severely allergic to almost everything. It's one of those stupid dogs too - the useless ones that are so tiny they can't even survive on their own, and you have to carry them around to prevent like stepping on them and killing them. Sometimes he does bring in the dog in there, but it always stays behind the front desk. Well, on Thursday (the last day I went in there), that mutt was running around all over the place, and then he brought it into the little room where you put heat on your back and was like "You wanna give him kisses?," to which I replied, "No I'm allergic, remember?" Well, after shoving that stupid dog in my face and me having to physically push the dog away from me, he goes and plays with it (kissing the dog...

... holding it, letting the dog lick his face), he comes into the room and starts working on my neck (he didn't even wash his hands)! At that point I was just telling myself "It'll be fine, you won't get sick from that," but sure enough, the next morning I woke up with hives and fluid-filled welts over my entire upper body (because he like stretches out the muscles of your neck after to loosen them, so the dog dander on his hand got all over my neck). Also, I just got over being sick, and I have one of the worst sinus infections of my life. I woke up at 4 in the morning and had to do continuous nebulizer treatments because my airways were so swollen. To top it all off, I was getting work done on a tooth that I cracked and I had to cancel (last minute) because I can't even breathe, let alone sit there for 2 hours with someone working on my mouth. Err, well anyway, I'm very irritated and I was just wondering if anyone has some advice on what I should say to him.

I can't really switch chiropractors because he's the only semi-effective one I've found (and I've been to a lot), and I don't know what else I can say as far as "keep your dog away from me." Thanks!!!!

Oooh! I forgot to add the worst part! I get an allergic rash all over my face when I'm exposed to things like that. I had just gotten over a bout of it that lasted 2 1/2 months, and now I have it again! It's disfiguring and disgusting, and who knows how long this thing will last....!

Thanks for all the replies so far everyone!!! There are some good suggestions in there. :)

Anyway, I'm sure he'll notice the scars left behind from the hives (my skin hyperpigments and scarrs easily, so I'll be left with all sorts of marks from these hives for over a year), and/or taking one look at my face and seeing how it's swollen, red, and very allergic/inflamed looking. I'm going to the dermatologist on Friday and hopefully they'll give me sometime to quiet this down, it's so gross looking!!! :'(

Your chiro was very unprofessional-once you said you were allergic he should have removed the dog from the room, washed his hands, etc.

YOU are also at fault-YOU could have simply gotten up and left if you didn't like the way you were treated.

The only innocent is the stupid dog as you call it-he was just at the owner's mercy.

Sounds like you have issues with small dogs and you should find another chiro who doesn't have one. It's a free market out there-he is free to bring his dog and you are free to go somewhere else. If, however, you choose to remain with the chiro, then quit complaining-it is your choice. If he's really that good, you'll just have to put up with his eccentricities like having small dogs.

The thing is, while the doctor's office is a place of business, it is HIS place of business and he can run it anyway he pleases.

Wow!..sorry to hear your holiday totally sucked due to the your ill health. Well, it seems like the only way to handle this situation is with utmost honestly since your health has been effected. Tell him about your serious allergic reaction and watch for his reaction. If he is apologetic that's when you can nicely tell him it may be best if he keeps the dog away from you and to please wash his hands if he handles the dog before working on you. (although honestly, unless he is also a vet, his dog should not be in the office because I am sure other patients may have the same complaints and hand washing in the medical profession is a must -regardless of practice) I know you say he is effective, but if his reaction is negative (because some pet owners are easily offended when you talk negatively about their pet) you may need to find a new chiropractor. Good luck and take care.

he isnt professional so i guess you will have to be,,if you want the dog out tell him,,if he doesnt wash his hands tell him to,,i know it seems harsh but if you dont show you care why should he and im sure he would be shamed if he could see you,,many people say they are allergic and dont have the severe rashes and problems you have and he may indeed think you are exaggerating.honestly,,if it were me and not the holiday time,,i would walk in with my face a right picture and nicely ask,,"do you have anything for this,,your sweety of a dog has given me a slight rash,,nothing to worry about but this bit here,(point) is a right bit*h" and start scratching,,,,you dont have to be mean to get your point across and i doubt he will do it again.keep your sarcasm light and he will get the picture.

i would have taken pictures of the welts and the rash and showed them to him. i would explain in the nicest way possible that you are not saying that you are allergic because you do not like dogs that you are really allergic and show the pics and tell him what is going on. he should respect you enough to not bring the dog in the future on the days you have an appointment. if that does not work i would get a new doc. regardless of how good he is that is not worth it and he should respect you

If I was that kind of person I'd say something trite like all people who are allergic to dogs and cats and who don't like dogs and cats need to be put to sleep. But I'm not that kind of person.
Instead I'll say this:
Sounds like He was getting a head start on Christmas like already hitting the egg nog a little too hard. Especially since he knows you are allergic to dogs.
Get someone to take pictures of the effects then show them to him. Or find a new Chiropractor.

And Yeah I do Know how it is to be allergic to something. Wife had this one brand of perfume that tore my head off when she wore it. She'd wear it everytime she got mad a me. the stuff would drive me out of the house.
