ok, so my boyfriends aunt gave me this ugly used maternity shirt. i am not pregnant and i am not overweight. my man wants me to mail it back to her saying we do not need this. should i do that?m or is it wrong?

Don't mail it back, but certainly don't thank her for it.....Get rid of it, and next year just send her a card..................

Oh no! I feel for you, but at least your boyfriend didn't give it to you!
Tacky gifts are so hard b/c you don't know what the person was thinking when they got it. A maternity shirt? Since she bought it used it didn't cost her much, so sending it back just might hurt her feelings. Your boyyfriend can since he is family and that usually doesn't cause longterm problems.
Do you want to send it back? If you do, maybe put a thank you note with the shirt and say your not expecting anytime soon, but perhaps it would make a wonderful gift for later if you and your boyfriend decide to have a baby.
I got a maternity shirt from my mom for christmas one year, but it was new. I asked her what she was thinking and she said it was on sale and she didn't know it was maternity wear, so I threatened to have a baby with a traveling circus worker if she did it again!
Hey, at least you got a gift. Can the fabric even be used for something else--like a pillow cover? Or is it that bad?

Don't send it back! You'll start a war. Just donate it to the salvation army or something. His aunt may have not known it was a maternity shirt. It could have been a simple mistake. Just let it go and forget about it.

She may have accidentally ventured to the maternity department and didn't know it! I did that last Christmas and gave a lot of my friends maternity shirts and didn't even realize it until it was too late. I just told them that I had made a mistake and we thought it was funny! Don't take it too personal, it was probably a mistake, and if you send it back you might hurt her feelings. Just call her and ask her if she meant to get you a maternity shirt, just to clear things up for sure! ; )

Who cares about being rude? Send it back to her. She knew better than to send that to you in the first place. Not sure what her motivations are, but that is a pretty bad gift.
If she didnt mail it to you, then give it back to her and tell her that you are sorry you couldnt use the gift, so you are giving it back to her so she can find a better use for it. Either way, I would let her know that her "gift" was not received in a positive way.

Is there a joke you forgot about or a story behind her sending that shirt? It seems to me like it would make more sense to send nothing at all than something like that, unless she has some meaning to it.
I don't think you should send it back, but you don't have to send a thank you card either!
If she asks you about it, say it was a surprise and leave it like that. Don't start a fight, it can't go anywhere good.

Haven't u ever heard that it is the thought that counts..If u mail it back u will hurt her feelings.Tell your husband to remember that not everyone has money. She probably meant well...Just throw it away and leave things alone..Thats your best bet.Good luck What is wrong with all u people that say send it back.Not everyone has money and maybe she didn't know her size.She is family and that should be the end of it...Have we become that callous??

To qualify my response you have to understand that I am a general pain in the a++. I'd iron it up real nice and the next time I know I will see her, summer get together, dinner, some social I'd wear the damn thing..Anyone were to ask I'd say " isn't it lovely my boyfriends Aunt gave it to me, I think it's lovely"....Keep a straight face..If she gave it to you to be a smart a++ it will the gall the hell out of her.!! Or just ignore the whole thing..That might make a bigger impression....

Why not just donate it to a local goodwill, and get the tax receipt. That way somebody who actually needs it, gets something they can use and you get a donation ticket. You never know if the Aunt may be a little bit "off" or eccentric in some way. No harm no foul if you donate it.

I would send her a note thanking her. Also tell her that it is too large for you and would she mind if you sent it to the thrift shop so that someone else might be able to use it. Then see if you get a response - and take it to the thrift shop or good will or salvation army.

i would just throw it in the trash. that is very weird. i think the least contact with that person the better. why would someone send that? i would not send a used maternity shirt that was clearly used to someone who IS preagnant unless it was in very good shape. what a weirdo!!!
