I live in a rural area with 2 acres and a cyclone fence around it. recently a dog crapped at my garage side door step ( on the mat) and in my driveway. Do I wait up and shoot it? If I wanted dog poo I waould have bought a dog. The last dog that pooed in my yard I shot it and it never came back. I hate to shoot them but what do I do to keep the dog out?

It should not be your responsability to keep the dog out of your yard. It is the owner's responsability. Speak to them first. If this does no good, file a police report and take pictures of the dog "in action". Under no circumstances should you shoot the dog, even with a BB gun. You shouldn't have to put up a fence though. If the neighbors cannot keep their dog in their own yard, they are the ones who will be required to put up a fence- in their own yard.

See if you can find the owners and have them clean it up. This seems to deter the owners from letting there dog run loose. If that doesn't work phone the spca and tell them there is a stray dog you would like to have picked up because his is deficating all over your yard and there is no owner around.
This will make the owner think twice about leaving his dog out with out being on a leash. Also they will have to pay for the room at the kennel, food and posible shots for their animal. I did this to one guy one time, made him clean up the dogs mess, he looked at me like I was crazy. So I asked him for his address, so I could deposit his dogs droppings on his door step. He cleaned up the mess and always had the dog on a leash after that. That really works, and so does calling the dog catcher.

If you want criminal charges your thinking the right direction when shooting this animal actually crossed your mind and you wrote it online. Anyway, try talking to the owner. Its probably a smart dog because it wont poo in its own yard. But again, I cant get past the "shooting it with a bee bee gun". What is wrong with you?

Shooting the dog is a great way to get a visit from those nice officers with your local humane society and a chance to see what the municipal prison system looks like from the inside. Depending on your state, shooting a dog (even with a bb gun) may constitute a felony.

If it's your neighbor's dog, speak to them first. If it's a stray, contact your local animal control office. And put up a fence.

Don't think shooting it would be a good idea. Or you could just say that the dog lunged at you. But then your just lying to the Po Po and could get you in even bigger trouble. I think you should just get a bigger meaner dog than the one that is pooing in your yard and let him beat the crap out of it. Like a pitbull or rotweiler.

Why don't you try talking to the owner and having him/her pick up the poo and take care of the dog? You've got no right shooting it. That's just cruel.

try calling Animal Control, they will pick up the dog if its in your yard. but shooting it is just selfish. I agree with one of the answers, get a water hose and spray that little sucker, make it a habit when he come and he will soon stop.

Not a BB gun (although it would be effective) - you're asking for trouble. Get the garden hose out and give it a good blast. But talk to the owner and see what they will do.

Use a paint ball gun, that way the owner knows to keep it in their own yard, or if it is a stray, it may just get the message.
