You can put it in his bottle now, he's old enought, just make sure the hole in the nipple is bigger than for regular formula because the cereal is thicker. Don't put it in every bottle, just at night. It will help him sleep better at night too.

NEVER. Cereal is a solid food and it does not belong in a bottle. Between the ages of 4 and 6 months, and 6 months is better, you feed cereal to the baby with a spoon.
In the first place a 4 month old baby should still be entirely breastfed. If for some reason you are not breastfeeding, you can start solid foods around 6 months.

I have a 4 month old son also. His doctor told me to start giving him cereal this month (4 months). He also said that the cereal should never be given in a bottle. It can cause the baby to choke because it is too thick and feeding with the spoon also introduces the baby to eating solids.

I really wouldnt suggest giving your son cereal in a bottle at all but doctors suggest that cereal be started at 4 months and I would feed him right off the spoon

never, any doctor will tell you that it's not healthy to feed cereal in a bottle, it should be spoon fed, your son can probably have it now, I started feeding my daughter really thin rice and oatmeal with a spoon at about 4 months old. Putting cereal in a bottle is a bad idea because it can cause a lot of stomach pain and overeating and discourages good eating habits.

You should start putting cereal in the bottle when the milk isnt filling the baby up. If he is always hungry you may want to put some in there. Start off with a little and then gradually add more. 4 months is probably around the right age when you need to put cereal in the milk. Just make sure you have a nipple that is big enough to allow the cereal to get through.

My breasts didn't come equipped with that function. Maybe I should send them back?

Seriously though, babies never need cereal in their bottle. In fact cereal is the LAST food I introduced (except dairy). I offered NO GRAINS until 9 months. And no solids at all until 7 months, and then only because he would steal them off my plate, chew, and swallow them.

Some good info:

I highly recommend baby-led introduction to solids, however it may not be safe for a bottle fed baby:

well my daughter was about 5 1/2 months old but every child is different and most pediatritins say don't put it in the bottle spoon feed it which I also did but a little in the bottle won't hurt as long as you don't put it in every bottle. When you spoon feed cereal is probably can put it in a bottle

At three months of age. But this was okayed by his doctor first. We did this to help my son's Reflux. Most doctors say it is okay to start cereal at 4 or 5 months of age.

You should never put cereal in a bottle. This can lead to overfeeding or choking. At 4 mths your son should be old enough to start spoon feeding cereal. It will need to be thin in consistency at first.

Never put cereal in a bottle. The thick liquid causes them to draw harder on the nipple and can lead to an increase in ear infections. (Run this past your pediatrician - he/she will explain the anatomy of a short eustachian tube and just how bad this practice can be!)

Cereal should be introduced at 6 months, with a spoon in a siting position.
