I am thinking of getting a job at one, but I'm not sure what it would be like. Have you or someone you know ever worked at one, and if so, could you tell me a little bit about it?

I worked at an assisted living home for about 2 years. The people who you care for are supposed to meet certain physical criteria, such as able to bathe themselves, and they have to be continent, ambulatory, and overall, not ready yet for a nursing home. You will probably be responsible for things such as making their beds, serving food, doing activities, etc. You MUST genuinely like older people and have a pretty good understanding of the issues and challenges of aging. It can be rewarding, but it can also be pretty sad too, especially when they are depressed about their condition or none of their family ever comes to see them.

It depends on what type of job you are applying for. I worked in several retirement homes that had independent and assisted care. If you are applying for an job as an aide most places require you to have a CNA certificate (Certified Nursing Assistant). You are responsible for changing their depends, showering, dressing them, if they are unable to do so themselves. If someone has Alzheimer's you need to be incredibly patient with them because they can sometimes become angry and/or violent. You end up working almost every holiday unless you are a department manager. I worked in different ones for 15 years.

Yeah..I worked at one for 5 years. it's like any other place with its own politics and such, it can be very rewarding but also sad as patients pass away. I found it impossible not to care for them like my own family. It takes a special and emotionaly tough person to work there

I would really like to help you but your text is far too long. The spelling is pretty good but there are a host of grammatical errors. Good luck anyway. x
