That's a good question.
On one hand, I think the people who ask the questions would learn much more about the answers by seeing other people respond to them.
On the other hand, you just KNOW those people that thumbs-down everything they don't agree with (or everything that isn't their own answer) will abuse the opportunity to say whatever they want.
I would say wait and see. If Yahoo Answers can clean up the abuses that already exist, then maybe they should expand commenting on answers. But, to do it right now would just throw fuel on the fire.

I think you should be able to respond to answers. It's kind of stupid how they have the thumbs up and thumbs down especially since you can't do that until you reach Level 2.

I think the thumbs up and down says it all. Otherwise conversations would get all over the place and the simplicity of the idea would be lost.
You can answer anyone anyway by simply commenting to them in your own answer. You can edit any previous answer you might have made and add whatever you like to it.

The person asking ,should read answers and they should pick best answer. and just add a comment .I always pick my best answer thats what its all about..you cannot respond to every answer it would take to much time and it would cause a war zone and lord knows that happens very easily on P&S.....besides my thumbs are too busy being up my butt....lol lol lol kara....heres a hug

both. Sometimes I want to tell people that I really agree with them or to respond to apoint they brought up and sometimes I want to tell people that they are way way off base. But for a quick comment, thumbs up or down is good.

The thumb system, it seems enough like a chat spot without seeing pairs of angry responses.

Good question. It would eliminate those who thumbs down in hopes to get points for getting the highest vote.
It would make them own up to the rating decision.

I would rather see thumbs up/down because if people could respond it could get really ugly.
