Import it into Windows moviemaker, edit and save.
The only problem is windows movie maker only saves files in the .wmv format. It'll play well on windows, but may not play on a lot of macs.

import the video clip, first of all. You could dig up the option under the file menu, but it's easier to just drag the clip into the main panel. Then at the bottom panel, click "show timeline". If it says "show storyboard", then you're already on the timeline mode so don't worry.
you can now play through it and make cuts in the video (below the video panel to the right, there is a screenshot camera tool (to save a frame from video). The next one in is the clip splitter. you can cut the video with this.

to zoom in or out, click the + or - magnifying glasses on the left. the audio and video are in the same track, to separate them, you can ctrl+drag the video into the audio track to make it just audio. Then select the video and go Clip> Audio> Mute. This will make the video stream not have any audio in it anymore, and you can edit it more easily on the audio track. Oh well, fooling around with it is the easiest way to figure out how to use it, but i hope this helped. good luck!

and you can also save to DV avi format under advanced video options when you go to save. It's hidden in all of the wmv profiles, and it took me ages to find (but i didn't know it was there).
