Multiply through by x

x^2+1+x=4x

Subtract 4x from both sides

x^2 - 3x +1 = 0

Use the quadratic formula to solve for x from here.

If you meant x + 1/(x+1) = 4

Then multiply through by x+1

x(x+1) +1 = 4(x+1)

Distribute and solve for x.

Given x+1/x+1=4
x+1/x-3=0
x^2+1-3x=0 Thus multiplying through by x
x^2+3x+1=0
After factorizing one would have
(3+/-square root of 5)/2
X=2.6180,038197

x + 1/x +1 = 4
multiply by x
x^2 + 1 + x = 4x
x^2 + 1 -3x=0
solve the quad eq
u will get
x = (3(+ or - ) sqrt(5))/2

x +1/x + 1 = 4
x + 1/10x + 1 = 4 <- since 1/x is the same as 1/10x (i jsut think its easier to look at)
11/10x +1 = 4 <- combined liek terms
11/10x = 3 <- brought 1 to other side to isolate variable
x= 3(10/11) <- multiplied both side by the reciprocal of the coefficient of x
x=30/11 <- simplified

x^2 + 1 + x = 4x
x^2 - 3x + 1 =0
( using ax^2 + bx +c =0
x= [-b + (b^2 - 4ac)^1/2]/2a
= [-b - (b^2 - 4ac)^1/2]/2a
)

x=[3 + (5)^1/2]/2
& x=[3 -(5)^1/2]/2

x+1/x+1=4
x+1=4(x+1)
x+1=4x+4
x-4x=4-1
-3x=3
x= -1
