He was found guilty of "crimes against humanity". He was in a position of power to order the murder, rape and torture of fellow human beings.
The sentence is just.
Murderers and rapists should suffer capital punishment, whether they be former leaders of countries or your common variety of street hooligan.
As for the apparent swiftness of the punishment, it only seems so to some, because we have been squeemish about punishing wrong-doing. We go out of our way in America to have appeals and more appeals and stays of execution. In the name of preventing some innocent person from being punished, we jump through a thousand technical hoops before we can reach of verdict. And then, heaven forbid, we should punish a murderer or rapist. "It doesnt provide a deterrant." some say. If we follow that logic, nothing seems to deter any kind of crime, so why build prisons inthe first place? Start weilding the death penalty as it should be and you will see a deterrant. It is not about revenge, it is about removing anti-social people from society. Thats what jails were supposed to do, but in this age of college courses and cable TV in prison, explain how jail deters criminals anymore? Sure it would deter you. You think its a bad place.
But think about the thug down the street who sees two alternatives:
1) rob you and rape your wife and steal your TV and get away with it, or
2) rob you and rape your wife and steal your TV and get sent to prison for a few months where you get three squares a day, a regular workout, and a job answering 1-800 phone orders.
Where's the deterrant?
I submit that most people who dont think Saddam should be executed are soft on crime in general. I say punish them as a message that society wont tolerate their anti-social behavior. Otherwise the message you send is the opposite.

I think it might cause a lot of problems and controversy, especially in the Middle East. Saddam does not deserve to be considered a human after what he has done, however, he has already been punished (his two sons were shot like 50 times each). I think life in prison would be more fitting, he might, possibly be a valuable asset in the future... Or maybe the people of his country should be able to choose his punishment. This might decrease problems...

Not strong enough. He should have small pieces of flesh removed, in each town, for each victim. A nice slow, painful death that can be cheered for by every Iraqi. He'll no doubt spend a quiet life in some prison......

Who is George Bush? Is he the president of the United States or the judge of the world? Does the United States have the right to sentence the leader of another country, especially when the crimes committed have nothing to do with America?
Someone needs to do something for America: Take George W. Bush out of power and make sure he never rises again.

Saddam is just one. There are other dictators who have committed horrible crimes against their own people and living here or abroad well.Their guilt and innocence is based on how much money they pay. I think if they hang him will make him a myth. Even some historical figures we made heroes in our north America were not so good after all.

I believe death is not a punishment. Life in prison, (I am sure Iraqi prisons are no summer camps) is a fitting punishment.
