If you have a PS2 memory card, you need to turn on the PS2 without any games in it, then on the menu choose the icon that looks like the memory card. It should ask if you want to format it. Choose yes. Now the PS2 should recognize the memory card.

You can also format the memory card by playing a game and then saving it. It will recognize that there's an unformatted memory card in the slot, and the game should ask if you want to format it. Just choose yes, and after it's done formatting the card, it will save your game.

Make sure the card is all the way in and that it makes good contact with the slot port a. If that don't work then it's the card and not the consule. I had the same problem with an old game shark I had. Now I strictly use the Code Breaker cuz it uses a small file and amount of space on your existing memory card also it's upgradable with newer codes and new games via the usb port and a memory stick of 512mb or better and it's cd based. Any who I hope that all works for you. Also avoid off brand mass space memory cards they eventually go corrupt and loose the data stick with the Playstaion brand and use the 8mb cards they work the best.

Check if it is in the right slot, if it is the right memory card, if if the right way, not backwards, not dirty. Check everything and make sure that it is in a position where you can use it. If you juist bought it and it is not working, there might be something wrong with your memory card and you should return it. Or maybe something wrong with your PS2.

Is it in the right slot for the controller, there are two slots for the controls and memory cards. The first slot is for the main control...eg player 1...second slot for secondary control(player 2) they will recognise and save the game for the appropriate control??? Sorry if that sounds basic but it does happen...goodluck...

You mean recognize? And the memory card is probably in slot b..but it in slot a. If that's now the case, it's backwards. And if that doesn't help you, just get a new one.

If the memory card is for play station one then it will not work with the play station two. I suggest getting a ps2 memory card, or if you already have one then push it in further, put it in the correct spot, and blow in it. Good luck!
