My baby is 6 weeks and goes through formula like water. She is also breast fed but it doesnt help fill her up. She goes through the $25 container of formula in about 3 or 4 days. Should i start her on rice cereal now?

I went through the same thing with my Daughter.. I put her on rice cereal at 5 weeks old. My specialist told me to put only 2 TBS of cereal to her bottle. She was fine!! She was going through 8oz. bottles every 2-3 hours. I even tried to hold her off too and she screamed and cried for more. So, I spoke to my specialist and he said to put her on cereal. I have had ALL 3 of my children on cereal before they were 2 mo. old and they did fine. Just note not to over feed.. 2 TBS Cereal maybe 3 times a day if that. Good luck...

my son goes througha large container of powdered fornmula in 3-5 days. so i dont think thats so un-normal. I put my son on cereal when he was about the same age as your girl. Although the doctorswish you would wait until shes monts old, sometimmes that doesnt cut it. Its hard to deal with a baby that eats that much. I would put about the normal amount of formula in, th bottle. Then in a seperate bowl i would mix up about an oz of cereal to start off wiht.and feed with a baby spoon as they get older and eat more, add the ceareal to the bottle, or make more cereal. you can buy these feeders that are really great. you mix up the cereal and the baby eats it through a bottle like thing, just dont put straight liquids in it or they will leak out. Try wal-greens to find one.

No you shouldnt. You should wait until at least 4 months old. There stomachs are far to sensitive for cereal at this point. A baby can go through 8-10 bottles per day in the first few months. Perhaps up the amount of formula. Ask you doctor though

Ok my doctor told me to put in about a teaspoon of rice cereal into his bottles once or twice a day. This amount of cereal will easily go thru the nipple and just acts as a supplement for the baby. You will read lots of books and articles about how bad it is but I did it and my son is 3 years old, he is not obese and he is perfectly fine!

My friend asked her dr about it & he said it was ok to put a very small amount in her milk. She is also on half breast milk & half formula. Ever since she puts a dab of cereal in her milk she has been more satisfied, not as fussy, and she also sleeps better at night. She started doing this when she was 6 weeks old.

I started my son on Rice cereal at 6 weeks, and he did just fine. If the formula and milk just isnt doing it start the cereal. I would start with a very little, like in a regular bottle just open the hole a little. Good luck

I started giving my son cereal at about 2 weeks old, because he was the same way. You just couldn't keep the little guy full. He is now 4 months old and is healthy as a horse. If you do give her cereal, try to add a little bit of juice to her daily diet, because rice cereal can be a little binding. I give my son white grape juice, and I mix it with half water. Just a couple ounces every day and he stays regular and happy.

No. What's more important, how healthy she is or how much it costs to feed her? If the cost of the formula is bothering you, work with a Lactation Consultant or a La Leche League Leader to make breastfeeding work better.

Cereal (and other solids) should not be started until around *6 months* of age, per the AAP. ALL a 6 week old should have is breastmilk or formula. Starting solids too early increases the risk of allergies, diabetes and obesity. Their tummies are not ready to digest it until around 6 mos of age.

In the first year, solid foods are really for fun and practice, not for nutrition. Breastmilk and formula should continue to make up most of the diet for the entire first year.

My doctor always said wait cause they can't digest the cereal and it goes right through them. Try giving her more formula. Her body can digest that. To be sure what's right for your baby talk to her pediatrician.

My sister didn't start the cereal until she was about 4 or 5 months so check with the doctor.
