It's not uncommon at all for employees to bring their work problems home with them, and vice-verse, bring their problems at home into work.

The important thing is to NOT let it effect your work performance because that can get you written up or terminated. If it's a very severe or long-term problem, then you might want to discuss taking a leave of absence under the FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act).

It happens all the time....just as easy as it is to bring problems at work home with you.

If you have a sick child, your mind will be on your child and not concentrating on work. If something is happening at home that is seriously affecting your performing your job duties, you should be taking time off. You will need to either take vacation time, or if it is going to be an extended period of time, you should be taking unpaid leave under the Family Leave Act.
