If you want to get a queen ant without paying for her then you will need to wait until the summer mating flights. I am sure that everybody reading this has seen the masses of flying ants that fly from the nests in the late summer. When this happens simply search the ground for larger than usual, wingless ants that are scurrying across the ground. These are newly fertilised queens that are looking for a new nest site. Simply pick her up and place her in your ant farm (ensuring that you do not mix her with any other ants, not even other queens).

You can't buy a queen ant; its against Federal Law, unless you have a license from the USDA. Do NOT try to dig up a nest looking for a queen ant. 1) you will not know where to look for her, 2) you will end up destroying the whole nest, and 3) chances are you will kill the queen in the process

Well i`m not real certain on where you get a queen ant other than your back yard ant hill but if you did dig up the ant-hill it would be difficult because the queen is deep but ask some-one

What an unusual question. ;)

I would suggest that you contact a local university with an Entomology department and they may either sell you one (probably unlikely, but you can ask) or they may be able to tell you who you can get one from.

You could also try looking up Entomology clubs online and writing an email. Being a club I'm sure at least some of the members would be breeders who could sell you one.
