Well, while it is important for the boss or person in charge to set a good example, they sometimes feel that it is better for employees to do as they say and not as they do.
They are the boss--
they may be on salary and not so much inclined actually be there when the other workers are. Maybe they put in hours at home when everyone else is home relaxing on their time off.
But, I think the "boss" should set a good example that employees should want to follow.
But, if they're late--how would they ever know if you were?

the reason you had to be at work on time was 1) you are the worker,2) so they (the boss) don't have too

Keep up the showing up on time. Hell, show up 5 minutes early every day. In time, maybe upper management will take notice and you'll get your boss' job.

He is the boss. Believe me when I say you do not know everything he is involved in. Part of the responsibility of being in charge is to make sure his employees are doing their jobs. He is expected to do his job based on the demands his boss places on him.
Do your job and let him do his.
