I agree that the show teaches may lessons that I don't want my children learning. My husband watches it occasionally, our kids are 4 and 6 so they don't really pay attention to it yet. Here are the issues that I have with it.
1) The kids when told No whine, pout, etc. and their parents then give in. Showing kids that this is a good way to get what you want.
2) The parties set standards that normal parents can not match all the while their kids announce that their parents do this for them because they really love them.
3) The kids act like brats and hold the invitations to their parties over the heads of their classmates, thereby deciding who is "cool" and who isn't. I know that this happens anyway, but don't glamourize it on television making it seem more acceptable.
4) The other kids often are not fond of these brats and this show often shows kids trying to get"in" with the brats. This teaches kids that it is acceptable to give up your own thoughts and self and become who someone else wants you to be just because they have money.
And those are just a few of the ways that it irritates me.

ive seen the show yah
about the alcohal thing if the parents give it to them they can drink not in public
my sister loves the show shes 16 its just a show about snotty lil kids getting everything they want from their rich parents, as long as your daughter knows that thats not how things are for the rest of the world it should be ok
my problem with it is how bad they treat their parents who obviously never demanded respect from there kids.
dont worry to much but watch her attitude and the rest of the shows on mtv some are not appropriate for children period
btw im 18 and will admit this

I also hate that show and my daughter is 15 and watches it. I told her if she ever acted like those kids do not only would she not have a sweet 16 BD she may not live to SEE sweet 16. She says o.k. Anyway the kids in that show are not just brats they are hel...lions and do not deserve one iota of what they get and yet the parents do it anyway yet people wonder why kids today are so disrespectful and out of control

You, like me, sounds like you're in denial.
The show is, as is usual for network television - very conservative compared to what is really happening...
If the show were to be accurate based on statistics - it would show 10-12 year old drinking wine... (and possibly having sex... stats indicate some 10-20% of 12 year old girls have had vaginal intercourse).
By the time you hit 16-17 age group, you've got hard alcohol, drugs, sex and a lot of teen pregnancies because parents haven't taken enough responsibility in raising their kids.
As for legality - I'm not aware of any state than bans consumption of alcohol by minors, if its served in the home... and that includes all the way down to babies (brandy on the gums anyone?)
TV is fake - as long as the children understand that - what they see shouldn't effect how they see you as a parent. Its like reading a fantasy novel like Harry Potter... kids love it... kids want to be it... but kids do realize its fantasy - I know my nine year old nephew understands...
Although I do agree with you in principle - we have to deal with the realities of today's society... and kids are doing things at younger and younger ages... it frankly terrifies me... but the best we can do is raise our kids the best way we know how...

If anything this show is a prime example of BAD PARENTING! The teens on this show act horrible because they are allowed to do so. It really goes against everything MTV "says" they try to promote and stand for. I think they need to get rid of this show and focus more on important issues the youth of this world are facing. For example, the show called "true life" has covered isues such as drugs, poverty, and eating disorders in America and shows how life can really be, and really is for many teens. This in my opinion gives a more realistic view on things rather than a glamorous one often portrayed by celebritys and the media. It makes me thankful for the things I have and had in my life rather than feel worthless because i didnt show up to my sixteenth birthday bash in a helicopter to recieve my brad new beamer. I was lucky to get a cake and one gift for any birthday I had, and a party was almost always out of the question! And that is real.

This is one of the worst shows ever! I was just watching it yesterday and this teenager boy was waaay more feminine than his female friends. I had to turn it off, as it's bad enough watching the girls flip out to have a 17 tier, glow in the dark, sparkling, pink cake, but to see a guy the same way. That made me even more sick!
The show cracks me up... Because it's just a waste of these people's money for some spoiled brat that is totally ungrateful and completely undeserving of anything.

Hey I'm not saying you are wrong, but I have seen several episodes of that show and haven't ever seen kids drinking wine. Are you sure it wasn't something else?
btw I do agree with you about the extravagance... what I think is worse is that those kids are SO bratty and have such a sense of entitlement. Not exactly role models for teenagers.

You obviously have some writing talent. I think though, that you need a better focus for your love poem. You might want to go to the library and look up Sara Teasdale. She was a poet who wrote great love poems. A good love poem requires a theme and a context. By looking at some famous poets work, you'll get some ideas...

I love that show! But you are right your daughter should not be watching it UNLES she is 12. And just tell her that she is not supposed to watch that show, or you can block those stations, thats a really bad show for kids under 12 because they curse, alot.
