I am a medical transcriptionist and I love forensics. I would love to work with someone like Dayle Hinman, Body of Evidence or just work for a medical examiner. I presently work at home now and do psychiatric and rehabilitation transcription. I have looked everywhere and cannot find the hookup for doing autopsies here in Michigan. I have an associates degree in medical transcription. Does anyone have any suggestions to make my dreams come true.

Some companies do autopsy reports in their pools either at home or in office. Your best bet is to call hospitals in your area and/or look for medical examiners in your area and see if they are hiring transcriptionists. www.MTJobs.com may also have some listings.

To the person above, you don't need to be a doctor to type autopsy reports. She wants to TYPE them, not perform them.

I'd check into local colleges for criminal justice classes with specific focus on forensics. I believe ITT does that now, but know nothing of the quality of ITT. You definitely want to go somewhere reputable so you'll get a good job later. I'd also make sure to go somewhere where they offer career counseling or job placement assistance. Keep in step with a counselor the whole time so you know what classes you'll need to accomplish your goals.
