The plastic will have a number from 1-6 in a recycle triangle.
If it doesn't have a number, it's not recyclable.
You have to check with your community to see what they accept. I live in a fairly large city and they only take 1-3.

A counter point to this is that recycling plastic causes so much pollution that it might be better for the environment to not recycle it at all. (Source - Penn and Teller)

No, there are codes under the plastic containers that tell you if that particular plastic is recyclable or not.

nope, you need to check with your local sanatiation authorities and see. You need to check the little numbers surrounded by arrows on the bottom of the bottles. in some places its only 5 and 2 or something like that so check and see it all depends on where you live
