Okay, I am now 20 years old. My mother left when I was 2 years old. she never paid child support. We recently got in contact with each other and now she chooses to stay out of my life. I feel as though since she does not want to be in my life anymore then she needs to pay backpay for child support. Oh yeah I have a brother also, she left him also. My father has raised us both, and we r fine but I feel as though since she wants no part in our life then she should help out in some sort of way. Am I wrong for trying to take her for child support allthough I am now 20. I would also like to know how do I go about filing? I dont know who to call, or anything, please help me! Also the reason why I dont know what or how to do it is because she lives in Texas and I live in Maryland... so what do I do?

i believe its your father who has to file, for it is he whom supported you guys all of these years.

contact your local Legal Aid Office. they are in all states and most counties. they go on a sliding scale so are free to most. look in your phone book or call the county court clerks office and ask if they have it. if not, call your state bar assoc and ask for it.

also, all monies that are collected are owed to your father (or whom ever raised you). it doesnt matter how old you are...even if you were married now. its Child Support, not Child Trust Fund.

here are some links. just click on your state and find the section you need... child support, etc.

I've heard about this happening, you would have to check with a lawyer.
Here's the thing, yes you can get garnishments for the rest of her life, and yes you may even get tax intercepts. The question, however, is this; do you really want to make this person that big of a part of your life? In most cases, you'll be shoving that needle into that turnip screaming "Give me some blood darnit!" and giving yourself more stress than it's worth.
Sometimes the best revenge is living well.

Sounds pretty greedy to me. If I were you, I would leave it alone. You cant punish her for not being in your life by trying to make her pay money. That isnt your money even if it could be done. Your FATHER is the one due the money not you.

I think that it would have to be your father to file. I would talk to some one at your court haouse, in the family court system
