I know Dallas gets hotter according to pure temerature, but Houston is more humid. Then again, Houston is closer to the ocean, so wouldn't there be a breeze? Eitherway, to those of you who have lived in both places, which one of the two cities is more unbearable with discomfort and heat in the summer?

My husband is from Houston originally, and we visit family there periodically throughout the year; we also spent a summer outside Dallas working at a Shakespeare festival - for my money Houston is MUCH more uncomfortable. It was certainly hot up around Dallas - we averaged triple digits there the two months we were at the TSF, but cliche though it may be, it was a DRY heat - if you got out of the sun and into the shade it could be really comfortable even though the temperature difference on a thermometer probably wasn't that enormous. In Houston on the other hand, it is just as sticky and miserable in the shade as it is out in the sun, and most parts of Houston are not particularly 'coastal' when it comes to a breeze. I'm from the Northeast, so I know humid and sticky pretty well; my Texan in-laws pretty much agree.

It really depends on how long you stay, cause the wind can pick up and the humidity changes. I would say they would be pretty equal. Houston is a bit cooler, but it has higher humidity. Dallas is hotter, but a bit dryer. The heat indices are probably about the same. They both are fairly breezy in summer. I live in Austin, and it is halfway between both humidity and temp of the two cities. So Austin, Dallas, and Houston probably all feel the same in summer depending upon the wind, clouds, or storms.

Houston for sure because it is close to two major bodies of water. On the left the Gulf Of Mexico and on the right the Atlantic Ocean. Both of them have very warm water tempertures and much of the humidity and moistness is trapped into the air along with the dreaded heat so when it is summer time Houston feels it. This is also one of the top cities in the USA with the worst air quality during the summer due to all of the haze.

Houston by far is the worse; being closer to the Gulf (not ocean) is what makes the humidity even more unbearable along with the exhaust fumes from the refineries (Pasadena, Texas City).

Dallas only has (for the most part) dry heat and doesn't have as many surrounding concrete thorough ways as Houston which traps & radiates heat.

Unless you've acclimated yourself to Houston's environmental climate, Houston is by far worse for summer heat.

I have a friend from Houston who said that it is very humid in Houston in the summer and she went up to Dallas and said it was hot, but not as humid, so it wasn't as bad. Even though Houston is by the water, the wind would have to blow to the West, which I don't think happens too often, usually, wind blows from the West to the East, so I would say Houston is more uncomfortable in the summer. Hope this helps.

And, to this point ...... it's unanimous.

I lived in Austin years ago and would visit friends in Houston, Dallas and other places. The temperatures were similar, but the humidity in Houston is usually MUCH higher - therefore, Houston's summer usually feels more unbearable
