My dad seems to remember seeing Pink Floyd's album, Wish You Were Here, being played on tv to a helicopter flying through the Grand Canyon. Unfortunately he has no more info, as it has been so long, and I'm not sure if all the details I do have are right. I have tried Googling it but not knowing one end of Pink Floyd from the other have not had much luck!

I was wondering if it rang any bells with anyone else or if you know if there is any footage of it on any of their DVD's? He seems to think it was on BBC2 and could go back as far as the 70's !?!

Any ideas gratefully received! Thanks!

I don't remember this, but...

In the early days of Channel 4, they used to open their morning transmissions with a bunch of videos they had put together. i.e. some great music and some film footage that was not designed for or promoted with the music. But the combinations were fantastic. Very often the video part was helicopter shots over beautiful landscape.

I think there were earlier precedents, like Koyanisquatsi, and Pink Floyd tracks were perfect for a series on deep cave exploration in the mid 70's. Sid Perou etc.

The closest thing I know of is a prop plane flying over english farmlands to atom heart mother and other songs from that era, someone recorded it on vhs then put it online, was from '72 "An hour with Pink Floyd" on ABC. What your looking for would be very difficult to find. Try youtube.

Yes I do remember it but then as someone else said Pink Floyd music has been played to countless videos of this that and the other. As for the half wit who said that Pink Floyd have not moved on since Ummagumma and that their music makes you fall asleep I suggest that he listens a little bit more. They have moved on hugely since Ummagumma and if he falls asleep perhaps it is because his ears are full of crap from the likes of Snow Patrol, The Killers, Razorlight and associated untalented bags of musically challenged ****.

Of course Pink Floyd is probably the most played background music and is probably relied upon by every film maker doing this kind of thing.
I have a similar experience with a film with yachts in it.
Can't think what it was though????

This album exists and it's a great one...However, I don't know anything about the video. I am sure if you Google it - you'll find what you're looking for.

Don't worry, all pinkfloyd sounds the same anyway. music to send you to sleep. they haven't really moved on since Ummagumma.
I mean I was in my teens just starting to get stoned and they were brilliant.
Now i 53 and they still sound the same. do you really want to fossilise for the sake of aural safety?
