You, my potential friend, have just asked the real question! Racism is pointless and stupid - you've got 'blacks' that are paler than some 'whites'... go figure that one out!
Caucasian used to refer to those of European ancestry - but that doesn't work so well when you look at a world where European colonialism pretty much spread 'white' all over the globe, whilst the slave trade spread 'blacks' all over the earth as well...
Now I admit that's an oversimplification...
What I've always gone by is the person, how tolerant they are of other cultures... and how blindly obsessed they are with their own culture.
Anyway - I'm guessing the pinheads you've met figure you're a '*******' because you speak Spanish (or is it Portuguese - Columbia speaks Spanish right? its Brazil that speaks portuguese...been to long don't rember...)
So basically you've run into the lowest common denominator of American culture.
For which I apologize... move to my area - I'm guessing you'll be treated as 'white'...
Which will probably confuse the whole thing even more.
Peace, and again apologies for my fellow American idiots...

Race is an artificial way to categorize people. Genetically, there is more variation within races than between them (I won't bore you with the statistics).
Some people obviously fall into the currently accepted races while others fall on the periphery. It could just as easily be devised that those on the periphery now constitute the race while the races now lie on the periphery.
The current designations, the main ones anyway, were devised by ethnocentric white males in the 1800's.
Similarly, these same men put humans in a separate genus from the great apes, an obvious human conceit.

If you have a job then yes you are probably white... Totally just kidding, I hope some little holy roller doesnt take offense and get my answer removed, seems to be the trend lately. I say who cares what those white supremacist say, who cares what they have to say, I know I and the majority of the rest of the people in the world could care less what some racist f@ggot has to say. Who cares if you are white/caucasian, also in South America its almost impossible to tell most of the people from any North Americans I see in the streets. I think you will find that anyone in your life who matters to you wont care if you are white, green purple or black and to everyone else, screw 'em you dont need em.

Nt via a protracted shot. The shape desires neither empathy nor determination, or translation for that rely, till you're part of a team attempting to subvert the meaning of what replaced into written. that's what that's, and is particularly understood in case you're taking time to study it. From the splendid courtroom, President, and the Congress, absolutely everyone that takes an oath to "uphold and safeguard the form" and then ignores it on an identical time as in place of work, could be faraway from that place of work. One lie continuously ends up in a distinctive.

White/caucasian, as you put it, is not a matter of what you look like it is a matter of ancestory, just as being Latino, Hispanic, Japanese etc. Below I have given you one definition.
By the by, calling or referring to an individual or worse yet, a group of people as racist is in itself showing your prejudice. In my experience, the majority of people that demonstrate racist traits have not been Caucasian. I don’t live in Florida where 70+ percent of the population is either Hispanic, Latino, Cuban or Black.
The term Caucasian race is sometimes used to refer to people whose ancestry can be traced back to Europe, parts of North Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, Russia, and in certain areas of Central Asia

It's not nescessary to have blue eyes to be considered white in Colombia, where did you take it from?Otherwise 30% of Colombian would not declare as beeing white. And 30% of Colombians declare beeing white. And that's not the percentage of blue-eyed people in Colombia. I don't know a single place in the world where you have to be blue-eyed to be considered white. Even in Iceland 20% of the population is not blue-eyed.
What makes a person qualifies as white/caucasian? You're white if you have mainly European ascents and looks European. That is the case of many Latin Americans, including Colombians, that is probably your case. It is impossible to a person looks whites if he/she don't have mainly European ascents. I see people on this yahoo! answers are so stupid. They say that if you have "latino ascents..." What the hell is latino ascents racially speaking?

Racist is different than discrimination against the other cause the way the look or act or communicate...if they are act like monkeys, they are talk dirt with many F word, they look like a bum when they come in the nice restaurant then they should deserved to be discriminated against them....
To me, I am not white, actually I am Asian but I have no problem about that cause like I said we should look at ourselves as the same level and act or communicate as an educated person then no one against you....sorry, I meant no offense....just an idea.

If you speak spanish, you are not white. You are hispanic.
Unless your parents are white and just happened to move to south america, then you have an excuse and you are still white.
Sorry, but you can't change your race, if you are hispanic, then you are hispanic.
I know alot of spanish people, look white, and you might be, if your parents happened to have been white.
