You have to callibrate the controller with the wii first.

Did you follow the instructions and hook your Wii up to your WiFi network overnight for it to download all the updates for the unit first?

Some old games don't work with the Wii Remote, you need to buy a classic controller or plug in a GameCube controller.

Check your batterys, and make sure the Senser bar is in a good place.
