Is the day after Christmas always so depressing? Growing up, I used to hear an expression where people would say something "is about as festive as December 26th." It was meant to be sarcastic, since the day after Christmas meant that the festivities are over.

So, who else is bummed out that Christmas is over?

I understand the letdown to a point, but for me, I am still high on the fun from the last two days.
Christmas really begins for me Christmas eve. Perhaps I am too knackered after two solid days of fun, to be depressed.
I am in after glow stage. The tree is still up at my place, and will be for a time. Nice thing about being on one's own--you can do it your way.
What is depressing, if one thinks about it, is that we won't have the festivities for another year. The way I handle that is by trying to remember the happiness and joy and to carry a little of that spirit with me throughout the year.
To be kind, to be generous, things of that nature need not be reserved only for Christmas and the Christmas season.
Chipper up, this day will pass.

December 26th is depressing because the Old father in white & red did not give people what they really wished and they know they have to wait for the next Christmas in order to see their dreams made true. Of course this never happens.

Yet, I do not think that the festivities are over after the 25th, since I invented the January 1st feast: I started some years ago this feast, giving my parents and friends presents on the 1st day of the New Year: it is a good idea since people usually think that 'the way you started is the way you will go on all the year, and the way you will end'. A good start is very important.

As a matter of fact You could object that January 2nd is a very depressing day. No problem at all: on the 2nd day of the New Year we'll begin to wait for the January 6th (fiesta the los ninos que nunca crescen).

The day after the January 6th is very depressing, since really all the feast are gone, but we also have the 'remedium' for this annoing detail: think about the fact that February 14th is next to come, that the Feast of Fools will come, sooner or later, and Easter time, the first of May, and all the other happy days in your family. In this way you will survive overwinning your depression, even when all the Feast are disappointing and doomed to the unavoidable unhappy end.

Christmas is over but the Holiday season is still to be enjoyed. The lights are still up. Champagne is still in the fridge. And I have lots of cool new stuff, including some cool books and movies I'm looking forward to enjoying. The festivities are still goin on!

What are you talking about? New Year's is in 5 days. That's the night to celebrate too. Get out and get drunk and have a good time - than January 1st would be a sad day, but you always pay for things in life and paying for fun is no exception.

The festivities aren't over! Next is New Year's, then I get off for MLK Day, then there's my birthday and Valentine's Day, March has St. Patty's Day, then Easter, then Memorial Day, then July 4th. The celebrations never cease!

It's sort of a "is that it?" type of feeling.

Don't get me wrong - I don't mean Christmas itself was bad. It was just over too quick and you feel a odd sense of loss.

But there is the new year to look forward to. Using an analogy, one chapter is closing and a new one is about to open. That should have an uplifting feeling to it.

the facts are that Christmas is the day in which the most suicides take place as well the day in which the most single car fatal accidents take place. i would say that is the worst day
the period from Christmas to new years is the time in which most people if they are so inclined will kill themselves and or have real big knock down fights with one another.

People are done opening up their presents, so they are bored.

Also, for many children, their parents go back to work, so they are home alone.

Family is invited to ones home, and they all have to go back where they came from, and you have to clean up their mess
