I read it in grade school it's very poignant. It's a story that shows that prejudice comes in all shapes and forms...I never realized how some persons have lighter or darker-skinned persons of their own races who dislike them for not being light or "tan" enough...and are jealous of their dark skin or white skin.

read The Land, it's the prequel and you'll get a pretty good idea what this book is all about. then there's others that help you understand that book
