A lot of people do not like Green Day as a band.... what do you have against them?

Used to be a huge fan of them when I was about 11 and 12 and loved "Kerplunk", "Dookie", and "1,000 Smoothed Out, Slappy Hours" (or something like that, its been a while) and really loved how edgy and just great they were. My problem with them now is that although, I guess they have gotten older and are trying to mature as a band, I just don't understand how easily they have transitioned to the mainstream and have become so much more pop-oriented. The only thing that is half-way edgy now is their attire and even that is up for debate. I think many times , people expect a band to sound a different way or possess a certain appeal and when they step out and do something different, it leaves them very vulnerable to either being embraced and accepted or ridiculed and rejected. I have seen many bands transition from one genre to another and still sound decent and I think that it is great that musicians want to try new things and relate to another group of people but in my opinion, this band has lost the character and soul that made them a great band in the first place and I feel that they are more concerned at this point with producing another money-making hit rather then producing music that has any heart or sorry to put it so bluntly, any talent. I don't think they're all that bad, but the reasons why some of my friends hate them are their (newer) songs are too "pop" for them. And, most of my friends are obsessed with guitar and say that Green Day's guitar parts are too easy, which, they kinda are. I like their older music, but I'm not a big fan of their current stuff. Although, "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is pretty good.

They're not doing anything that hasn't been done before. Go listen to the Clash if you wanna hear what they're trying to copy.

Same reason I don't like Avril Lavigne. They pretend to be Punk when they're not.

I dunno, I love them. I only have their last album though but it's great. Oh and to the guy that said they were 'inmature' maybe you should learn to spell !!???
