My dog does talk.
Yes I understand her. She has a different bark for when she wants to come in, a bark to let me know someone is here, a bark for when she wants to play and then the silent treatment when she's mad at me.
So essentially shes not too far off from the kids.
She also has wonderful body language for when she wants to snuggle or when she is sad.

(Although these two cats could be pretty boring speakers I imagine! They'd probably complain about waiting for food...)
