Upstairs my vents are blowing heat like crazy. The floor is even warm where they are blowing! I go downstairs and they barely even blow, and it is crazy cold and I have no idea why. I have closed almost all the vents upstairs and it is still hot as heck because the vents downstairs just dont blow as good. The house is only a year old and only has one thermostat downstairs and it stays on forever and you can not stand to even be upstairs. I dont know if it matters but downstairs has 10 foot ceilings and upstairs has 8 foot. What could be wrong?

lYou need a heating person to balance your system by altering the dampers in the lines. Also if you have a basement make sure you have some vents open down there. The last thing is make sure you have enough cold air vents( returns) downstairs to pull the heat around the rooms.

The 2 ft difference in ceiling height will not make a big difference. There has to be a main damper in the duct system that regulates the air flow from the 2 levels. Go to the furnace and follow the supply duct, look for any type of handle or controller that can be moved. Installers sometimes have their own ideas on the correct way to run duct to supply air. It sounds to me there is a damper somewhere in the system to regulate air flow between up and downstairs

Ummm let see you have 10 feet ceilings, so all the heat that does come in downstairs is rising to heat the entire space of the downstairs area, this along with the better ventiliation system upstairs, kinda explains why your upstairs is so hot. You should seriously see about getting a second heating unit for your downstairs alone. Your house is probably too big for just one. You should defintely call an electrician just to come out and look at your current set-up to get a better idea of how to solve your problem and how much $$$$ it will cost you. Big houses = Big Money

Close the upstairs vents. Each one has a control.

You need to redirect some of the heat to the thermostat. You will probably have to nearly completely close them.

you say the vents don't blow as good in the downstairs. what is your house like in the summer? cool downstairs and hot upstairs.
yo need to install dampers in the ducts to control air flow in winter and summer. you can do that yourself. good luck.

NOTHING WRONG HEAT IS RISING. YOUR CHEAP A$$ BUILDER WAS JUST THAT, TOO CHEAP TO PUT IN A SPLIT SYSTEM! YOU NEED TO GET A CEILING FAN / OTHER FAN TO CIRCULATE THE WARM AIR BACK DOWN TO 1. ) GET AN EVEN MIX & 2.) TELL THE T-STAT TO SHUT DOWN!

Look to see if you have dampers in the duct system near the furnace. Alot of times it will be labeled summer/winter.

well heat does rise
the large ceiling will make it colder down stairs!
I would call your heating and coooling company
untill then break out a large fan and point it down stairs ! try to push that heat down there!
