As you can see from the above answers, its very, very debatable. Its a matter of personal opinion. Those who are ultimate cricket fans, will obviously, defend their game. Others, won't. Personally, I love cricket...and if this love leads to the dampering of other games..then, so be it ^_^
(lol..on a serious note, yes, I think it really does...India is "cricket crazy", and when asked to choose, an average Indian would opt for cricket)

Well my educated guess is that our people in the subcontinent are under nourished because of adulterated and bad supply of food so our players physique does not get developed as athletes of other parts of the world, moreover our governments does not want to spend money on the sportsmen other then cricket which pays them huge return in back, that is why other sports in the whole of the subcontinent remain backwards except for a few exceptional cases like Jahangir Khan and Sania Mirza

there is no doubt about it. with the exception of hockey which is now feeling the benefits of commercialization, sports like athletics, badminton, shooting, football are getting very little coverage. only on doordarshan can one watch these sports. that sux. if we as a nation want to achieve sporting success like the australians (the only cricketing nation, with success in other sports) then we must realize that cricket is never gonna become an olympic sport so we have to develop in other sports as well to achieve global sporting success.

No, not at all, Actually it support to other games to come up. Because other games will think that cricket is liked by many people as our team is good so they will also do the hard job to improve themselves. Sania Mirza is a sample.

No, it is not, it is just that it happens to be more popular than other games in india, so there is more attention paid to cricket compared to other games.

its a personal choice you see, no one forced leander paes , sania mirza to play cricket , they play tennis cos they had the love for this game .
back then when PT USHA won the race , people still used to play cricket , kapils and gavaskars were there .
its just that india has heroes in cricket , because its in our blood .we all want to play cricket cos we like this game , guarantee me a future in tt but no success in cricket , still i would want to play cricket cos i love this game
