Yes the constitution says so but needs amending in favor of the legal majority! The minority wealthy mob has ruled & controled all levels of government, they plant candidate's for you to choose from. They privatized your banking system from the government with the Federal reserve board in the early 1900's You to date do not have a proof positive verifiable form of voting from point of ballot cast to transmitted numeric results thats NOT subject to being tampered with. What democracy? More like land of the conquered & divided!

How about this, our Senators and Congress people draw up the bills and we the people vote them up or down, whatever passes the President signs into law. This is not only possible today, it would be much more practical and cut out pork, the lobbyists showering money around Washington and a host of other problems. If we can do billions of dollars of transactions safely why can't we find a safe voting system where we the people actually vote on the way our government runs, instead of allowing a few hundred people to rule us all?

You are somewhat confused.

It is true that at all levels of government Americans have representative government as opposed to a true democracy. At the time of the Founding the Founders believed democracy to be a step on the path to a dictatorship and a form of mob rule with no protection for the minority (Please refer to the Spirit of the Laws, by C. L. De Montesquieu a ready reference to all of the Founders). They were correct then and it still applies.

The American form of government is a Republic with a federalist system of general government resulting from a written Constitution established on a foundation of individual States each with their own written Constitution. All of this derives from Common Law. This provides freedom for the smallest minority of one.

As with any form of government, it works beat where supported by an active citizenry. It requires continual citizen oversight.

Voting methods are the business of each individual State. As has been in the news of late, there has been attempts in some areas to experiment with electronic voting which, in my opinion, is not very good. However, in other areas other methods have been used. For example, in my area we use a paper ballot which is scanned for immediate count and recording. Yet, the actual count still is in the retained paper ballots which are stored. Every voting precinct is run by local citizens. We know each other. To manipulate this voting is nearly impossible.

I agree with you that there are doubts as to the privatized banking system, however, it was developed and establish to control the previous system (a combination of government control and local private banks) which led to major swings in terms of confidence in the money system with continual local bank crashes. Prior to that was a different experiment with a government centralized bank which was a disaster.

I do understand your concern about the government system we use here in the United States and I doubt that it would work anywhere else. However, the point is, through all types of trials and tribulations, it does work.

One of the Founders, Thomas Jefferson, wrote in 1787 letter to E. Carrington, “With all of the imperfections of our present government, it is without comparison the best existing, or that ever did exist.”

More recently another statesman (I forget who at the present) stated, “The American form of government is terrible, but is yet the best that has ever been devised.”

If you wish a government to tell you what to do, or a government in which a majority (mob) uses government to tell what to do, knock not at this door.

America is a Republic. Thank you for your concern, but amendments to the constitution should not be taken lightly. The electoral system is under review. We'll keep you posted. What form of government are you advocating by the way? Its simple to criticize, less simple to offer viable solutions.

.we went to representative government because the meeting halls could not hold every one. Now days all could vote via the web after the elected Representatives made the arguments

I think our syetem works better than any other one that we could come up with.

Are you advocating socialism? Confiscation of wealth? They are unjust, and result in chaos and oppression.

Concentrate on making money and stop being so jealous of others, if you are so concerned with wealth.

And yes, educate yourself and vote.

We vote in the representatives. What do you propose? The only way you are going to fix this is election finance reform. The liberals by the way absolutely against this.

I think the assumption is that you the voter choose someone that you know would execute your ideas of how you want to live in this country. If you want to be dictated by a tyranny that would rather execute his/her own private interests, then you would be happy to know there are countries that still exercise that!

Elected representatives represent the majority of their constituency, ideally. Many times they represent whoever can buy their seat in congress. That is the problem. Corruption is rampant where lobbyists can buy legislators.
